MADISON, N.J. – CUA snapped its six-game losing streak on
Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Drew. The Cardinals
took game one 3-2 before the offense exploded in a 14-3,
five-inning game two win. Following the day's action,
CUA is 15-11 overall and 4-2 in the Landmark Conference.
CUA got off to a fast start in game one, jumping out to a 2-0 lead
in the first inning. Taylor Stockinger led things off with a
walk and with two outs, Mel Galella reached on an error. Erin
McMakin then doubled both Cardinals home to give CUA an early
lead.
Drew tied things at two with a pair of runs in the fourth,
beginning with a Lexie Forsell single and stolen base. With
one out, Jeramie Barletta doubled to left center to bring home
Forsell, and with two outs, Kate McNamara brought home Barletta
with a single.
CUA came right back and took the lead with a single run in the
fifth, which came on a Galella single that plated Stockinger.
McMakin got the Rangers to go down one-two-three in the sixth and
in the seventh, after Drew moved a runner to third, she retired the
final batter.
McMakin went all seven innings in the circle, allowing two runs on
six hits, while striking out seven to earn the win.
Laura D'Ornellas suffered the loss for Drew after allowing
three runs on seven hits.
In game two, CUA wasted little time in taking total control,
scoring three runs in the first and eight more in the second.
In that second inning, Sam Daubman led off with a double and then
moved over to third on a Tracey Scanlon single.
Stockinger then singled in Daubman to make it 4-0 CUA. With
one out, Megan Rizzi singled home Scanlon and Galella followed with
an RBI single of her own to bring in Stockinger.
Another single, this one off the bat of McMakin, brought in
CUA's seventh and eighth runs, and Rose Shaver's RBI
single plated McMakin.
Scanlon finished the scoring for the Cardinals with a two-run
single.
Nina Curto got into the act for CUA with an RBI single in the
third, before Drew finally got on the board with three runs in the
bottom of the frame.
The Cardinals finished things off with two more runs in the fifth,
which came on a two-run double to left by Shaver.
Kerri Apicella earned the game two win for CUA after going 5.0
innings and allowing three runs on six hits, while Casey Reggiani
was dealt the loss after she allowed 11 runs on 10 hits.
CUA returns to action on Sunday, April 15 when the Cardinals
travel to face Hood in a doubleheader. First pitch of game
one is set for 1 p.m.
