WASHINGTON – CUA closed its regular season out in fashion
on Friday afternoon, sweeping Juniata 9-0. Margie Selinger,
Ritamarie Holden, Elaina Sceusa, Caitlin Porter, Isabel Tanco and
Rose Montani earned singles wins for the Cardinals, while Tanco and
Andie Ingram, Holden and Porter and Selinger and Emma Needham
teamed up to win the doubles matches.
In singles play, Selinger outlasted Lisa Hauptman 5-7, 6-2, 10-5
at the first flight, while Holden picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win over
Megan Phillips at the second flight.
Sceusa defeated Stacie Beegle 6-4, 7-5 at third singles and Porter
downed Cara Stough 6-1, 6-3 at the fourth flight.
At fifth singles, Tanco came away with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Hilary
Walsh and Montani outlasted Emma Dahmus 6-4, 6-3 in a marathon
sixth singles match.
The duo of Tanco and Ingram earned the first doubles point with an
8-1 win over Hauptman and Stough, while Holden and Porter defeated
Beegle and Walsh 8-4 at the second flight.
Selinger and Needham closed things out with an 8-3 win at the
third flight over Phillips and Dahmus.
CUA still has a shot of making the Landmark Conference Tournament,
but the Cardinals will not learn their postseason fate until the
rest of the conference schools play their final regular season
matches this weekend. The tournament gets underway on
Tuesday.
