ASTON, Pa. – The winning streak has now reached 11 for CUA
after the Cardinals defeated Baptist Bible and Neumann by identical
3-1 scores on Saturday. CUA has not lost since September 2
and now sits at 12-1 overall on the year. With his two wins
on Saturday, Cardinals Head Coach Nagy Abdelrazek ups his career
total to 399.
In the day's first match CUA took down Baptist Bible by game
scores of 25-18, 25-20, 17-25 and 25-11.
Michaela Carroll led the Cardinals with 27 assists and she added
11 digs, while Claudia Jean registered double-digit kills with 11
as well as five digs.
Kristina Purcell (23), Katie Chefalas (19), Isabel Eberstadt (14),
and Kristen Schoeffling (11) joined Carroll in double-digits in
digs and Kelly Crimmins was the team leader with five solo blocks
and she also totaled 10 kills.
For Baptist Bible Emily Gordon registered 12 kills and Katelin
Broughton handed out 17 assists.
The Cardinals dropped the first game of their match vs. Neumann
22-25 but battled back to take the next three by scores of 25-15,
25-21 and 25-13. Neumann came into the match with a record of
10-4.
Carroll again played well with 39 assists and 17 digs, while Jean
registered 17 kills and 14 digs, and Chefalas totaled 12 kills and
18 digs.
Purcell went into double figures in digs once again with 15, Molly
Owens notched 10 kills and Eberstadt added six digs for a CUA team
that has yet to lose on the road this season.
CUA is now off for the week before returning to action on
Saturday, October 1 when the Cardinals travel to Huntingdon, Pa. to
take part in the first weekend of Landmark Conference round robin
play. CUA will face host Juniata at 1 pm and Merchant Marine
Academy at 6 on Saturday, and Goucher at 10 am on Sunday.
