CUA downs tough Dickinson squad 5-4 at home

WASHINGTON – Behind wins at fourth, fifth and sixth singles, along with first and second doubles, CUA downed a strong Dickinson squad 5-4 on Saturday afternoon at CUA Tennis Courts.  Jean Paul Roman earned a win at fifth singles and then teamed up with Cassian Utrie to pick up a first doubles victory for the Cardinals (3-0).

CUA had trouble getting things going early, dropping the first three singles matches.  Utrie fell at the first flight 6-3, 6-3 to Will Golinkin, while Joe Peters (6-2, 6-2) and Brian Bradley (6-2, 6-2) were beaten at the second and third flights, respectively.

Jason Quisberth got CUA on the board with a hard-fought 4-7, 6-0, 6-3 win at fourth singles and Roman followed with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 win over Ari Blask at fifth singles.  Kyle Kramer then tied things at three with his 6-3, 6-4 win over Erik Dinardo at sixth singles.

In doubles action, Utrie and Roman took down Golinkin and Franco Mena 9-7 at the first flight and Peters and Bradley followed with an 8-4 victory at second doubles.

Dickinson took the final doubles match 9-7, but CUA won the overall scoring 5-4.

CUA is back in action on Wednesday afternoon when the Cardinals close out their 2011 fall schedule vs. York at home.  Match time is set for 4 p.m.
