WASHINGTON – After sweeping two more matches on Friday at
the Worthington Classic, CUA upped its record to 17-2, matching its
best start since 2001 when the Cardinals began the year 38-2.
CUA downed Rowan and Keuka by identical 3-0 scores on Friday,
running its win streak to five straight.
In the opener vs. Rowan, CUA won in straight sets by scores of
25-18, 25-23, and 25-20.
Kristina Purcell led the Cardinals with 24 digs, while Katie
Chefalas totaled 17. Michaela Carroll handed out 31 assists
for the winners, and Bridget Kulesh (8) and Molly Owens (7) were
the team leaders in kills.
Rowan was led by Krissy Collins with 11 kills and Lauren Ruffalo,
who registered 17 digs.
CUA made quick work of its second opponent, downing Keuka by
scores of 25-12, 25-22 and 25-9.
Carroll registered 34 assists in this one, while Claudia Jean (16)
and Kulesh (14) led the way with double digit kills.
Purcell (17), Jean (16), Carroll (12) and Chefalas (12) were in
double digits in digs and Chefalas (3), Owens (1) and Isabel
Eberstadt (1) all notched aces.
Jill Nolan's 11 assists led Keuka, while Hannah Doody was
one of three players in double digits in digs with 19.
On Saturday, CUA closes out action at the Worthington Classic when
the Cardinals take on Virginia Wesleyan beginning at noon.
