Freshman Malloy Takes the Top Cardinal Spot at the Spider Alumni Open

RICHMOND, Va. – The Catholic men's cross country team opened its 2026 campaign at the Spider Alumni Open, hosted by Richmond. The men competed in a 6k run. 

Freshman Aidan Malloy was the top Cardinal finisher of the day, placing 51st out of 136 athletes, with a time of 20:21.5. Malloy also was the second Division III athlete to cross the finish line. 

Matt Haugh, sophomore, ran a time of 21:00.8 and placed 68th overall in the 6k. Teammates Patrick Morris and Quinn Langan finished back to back in 72nd and 73rd place. Junior Morris ran a time of 21:17.8 and freshman Langan logged 21:23.0.

Matt Montgomery, freshman, rounded out the top five Cardinal finishers with his performance of 21:39.3 and 80th place.

As a team, Catholic tallied 266 points and placed ninth overall. With their score, the Cardinals placed second against other Division III programs with Christopher Newport placing first with 256 points.
