WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Catholic women's soccer team only needed an early goal from Katie Scully to hold onto today's win over St. Mary's. Thanks to senior Scully, the Cardinals defeated the Seahawks 1-0 at home.

In the opening minute, Scully attacked the goal and put pressure on Seahawks' goalkeeper Breanna Brown. Not long after, Reagan O'Mara collected the ball at midfield and sent a long pass forward. Scully made a break past two defenders and collected the cross at the top of the box. The senior shot the ball low left and it entered the goal just out of reach of the goalkeepers' glove. O'Mara's assist marks the first of her career.

The Cardinals were not satisfied with the one goal, continuing to force the Seahawks to defend their net. Scully and Caroline Aponte both tallied shots on goal before the 12th minute. 

In the 12th minute, St. Mary's returned the pressure with a shot from Charlotte Bryan. Madelyn Catania logged her first save of the night, stopping the bottom center shot. The senior earned her second save of the night in the 15th minute. 

The Cardinals continued to attack the goal, tallying eight more shots in the first half, five of which were on goal. 

Goalkeeper Lauren Creamer entered the game between the posts for Catholic in the 62nd minute, looking to keep Catania's clean sheet going. 

Creamer faced no action until the 87th minute of the game. The Cardinals earned a yellow card, awarding St. Mary's a free kick just outside of the box. Seahawks' Keira O'Neill lined up and sent a shot to the top of the net, but not out of the reach of Creamer. The junior pulled the ball in to keep St. Mary's off of the board. 

Scully and Aponte both recorded six shots in today's game, four on goal. Reagan and Emma Antonetti tallied three shots apiece as well. 

Up next, the Cardinals start Landmark Conference play against Lycoming in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Kickoff for the conference tilt is slated for 4 p.m. following the Catholic men's soccer matchup.
