BRYN MAWR, Pa. - Catholic traveled to Pennsylvania on Tuesday for a non-conference match up against Bryn Mawr. The Cardinals couldn't overcome the Owls, falling 1-0.
Both teams took time to find their footing on Tuesday afternoon at Shillingford Field. Bryn Mawr was the first to showcase offensive prowess, earning two penalty corners in the 10th minute of play. Julia Ward then logged their first shot of the game, giving Catholic goalkeeper
Camryn Lowman her first save. Cami Heynen then took a shot for the Owls, sending the ball wide. The game was scoreless entering the second quarter.
In the second, Catholic was awarded their first corner of the game just five minutes in, which was taken by
Bella Reyes. Bryn Mawr responded with two more shots, both of which were saved by Lowman, and the scoreboard showed 0-0 heading into halftime.
After the break, The Owls steered the momentum in their favor. They were awarded a penalty corner in the 32nd minute of game action, and they earned two more just a few minutes later.
Bryn Mawr began closing in on the Cardinal defense, taking multiple shots as they attempted to get on the board. In the 41st minute, Elodie Anderson fed the ball to Mary Stronach who managed to sneak one past Lowman to put the Owls ahead.
Catholic looked for the equalizer in the fourth, seeing shots from
Kira Bobian,
Tess Hake, and
Annalise Kubasko, but all three were saved by Bryn Mawr's goalkeeper, Sydney Wright. The Owls maintained the lead as time ran out, securing the 1-0 victory.
Five Cardinals took shots in the game, three of which took shots on goal. Lowman earned three saves to bring her total for the season to 36.
Up next, Catholic will have their Senior Day celebration on September 26 in a meeting against Lycoming. It will be their first Landmark Conference meeting of the season. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m. at Cardinal Stadium.
