Aponte and Serrano Spearhead Scoring Showcase Against Neumann

ASTON, Pa. – The Catholic women's soccer team put on a scoring showcase during its road matchup at Neumann. Four different Cardinals scored in the 5-0 win over the Knights.

The Cardinal offense put immediate pressure on the Knights with Sara Greaser logging two shots in the first seven minutes. With her third shot of the night in the 30th minute, Greaser, assisted by Angelina Serrano, found the back of the net and gave the Cardinals the 1-0 lead.

Just a few minutes later, Serrano once again connected with her teammate in the box. Meredith Dunsmore collected the pass and sent the ball low left, passing the Knights' goalkeeper to improve the lead to 2-0.

Catholic's offense did not rest on its laurels with the 2-0 lead, adding a third goal into the mix during the 40th minute. Dunsmore found teammate Caroline Aponte who joined the scorer's club when she put it away. At the break, Catholic led 3-0 over Neumann.

Aponte once again pushed one past the goalkeeper in the 66th minute to increase the Cardinal lead, this time with an assist from Meaghan McFarland.

After dishing two assists, captain Serrano scored a goal of her own in the 84th minute of the matchup. Aponte found Serrano off of a Neumann goal kick to earn the assist. When the final whistle blew, the Cardinals defeated the Knights 5-0.

Caroline Aponte, a big goal scorer for Catholic last season, found her rhythm with her first two goals of the season.

Serrano made an impact off of the bench for the Cardinals, tallying a career high two assists and her third career goal. Dunsmore's and Greaser's goals marked career firsts for the pair.

Lauren Creamer started in goal tonight, making her fourth appearance of the season. Madelyn Catania played the second half in goal for Catholic. Both goalkeepers had a quiet night, facing zero shots.

Melany Monagas made her first appearance of the year off of the bench for the Cardinals.

Today's 5-0 win is the Cardinals' first road win of the season, improving to 3-1-1 on the year.

Up next, Catholic will take on Shenandoah on Saturday, September 16th in a Senior Day matchup. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. at Carlini Field.
