BALTIMORE, Md. – The Catholic women's soccer team opened its season on the road at #15 ranked Johns Hopkins. Despite falling 1-0 to the Blue Jays, the young Cardinal squad put together an impressive defensive showing only allowing 5 shots on goal the whole night. 

Johns Hopkins struck first, scoring in the 27th minute of the first half. Caroline Marcus' low right shot was just out of reach for the sophomore goalkeeper. Lauren Creamer, after only appearing three times in her rookie season, earned the nod in goal for the Cardinals. 

In the final minute of the half, freshman Julie Faranda received a long pass from across the pitch and headed the ball towards the center of the goal in an attempt to put the equalizer in the back of the net. The Blue Jays' goalie put just enough of a hand on the ball to punch it away and keep the Cardinals off of the board heading into halftime. 

Hot off the bench, Sara Greaser recorded the first shot of the final 45 minutes. Johns Hopkins kept its foot on the gas during the second half, out-shooting Catholic 7-3, but the Cardinals were able to stand strong. Alex Berish, Kelsie Price, and Avery Bowman led the Cardinal defense, only giving up a total of five shots on goal compared to 13 shots total. Creamer tallied four saves on the night, a career best. One of her saves was made in the 89th minute, diving to keep Johns Hopkins from adding another goal into the mix. 

Up next, the Cardinals will once again be on the road as they travel to Camden, New Jersey. Catholic is set to take on Rutgers-Camden at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 5th.
