Cardinals Post Solid Performances at Day Two of Fred Hardy Invitational

RICHMOND, Va. – The Catholic men's track and field team competed on the second day of the Fred Hardy Invitational to start its spring season. 

The men opened the day with the 3000m steeplechase. Tim Brown led Catholic with a program fourth-best  time of 10:19.48. Matt Haugh and Patrick Morris finished back-to-back with a times of 10:51.99 and 11:20.95, respectively. Haugh recorded the sixth-best time of the program.

In the 1500m race, Peter Winter logged a time of 4:08.20. Joey Locke raced 4:10.37. Tim Sweeney and David Stango finished consecutively, logging times of 4:19.93 and 4:20.49, respectively. Shane Waring raced 4:24.47 in the event and Joshua Leon clocked 4:26.08. Matthew McCormack ran 4:48.32.

Two Cardinals competed in the 110m hurdles. Drew Madden posted the seventh-best program time with 16.11. Gabe Devaney raced a time of 17.29.

In the 400m race, Marco Indelicato was the first Catholic finisher with 51.79. Emmanuel Olarewaju raced 51.93 and Gabe Stypul ran 53.25. Colin Matthews chalked up 53.73.

Calvin Hernandez raced a time of 11.09 in the 100m and placed ninth out of 52 athletes. He also entered the program record books with the eighth best time. Romell Randolph logged a time of 11.50. 

Hernandez also showed out in the 200m with a 21st place finish out of 57 athletes with a time of 22.57. Olarewaju clocked 23.50 with Matthews logging a time of 23.52 right behind. Indelicato completed the event in 23.62 and Stypul did so in 24.05. 

In the 800m, Stango logged a time of 2:07.98 and Waring raced 2:12.88. 

Michael Brunet raced a program tenth best time of 15:37.33 in the 5000m. Daniel Ponciano and Richard Harrington finished next to each other with 16:41.16 and 16:41.17, respectively. 

The Catholic 4x400m relay finished fourth out of 16 teams. Madden, Winter, Sean Owens, and Devaney made up the team. The group raced a time of 3:27.74 in the event.

In discus, Warren Gillis threw a distance of 27.97m. Ethan Carmichael logged 25.63m and Benjamin Warr earned 24.99m. 

Max Lindung earned a third place finish in the javelin with a distance of 48.24m. Caden Lopez reached 38.81m with his throw. James Varellas logged a throw 38.62m. 

In the long jump, Adrian Villatoro reached 6.47m. Brandon Hancock jumped 5.70m. Anthony Escuadro reached 5.69m. Nicholas Chang jumped 5.57m in the event. 

Up next, the Cardinals will travel to St. Mary's City, Md. to compete in the Seahawk Invitational on Saturday, March 28th. The meet is slated to begin at 9 a.m..
