WASHINGTON, DC – The Catholic women's basketball team celebrated their seniors against Moravian on Senior Day. The Cardinals showed out and defeated the Greyhounds 84 to 54.Â
Prior to the start of Saturday's game, Catholic honored four seniors who have given their time and skills to Catholic both on and off the court:
Maggie Hughes,
Alexa Kenah,
Amelia Kennedy, and
Anna Scoblick.
McKenna Karlson opened the game with a made layup, assisted by
Anna Scoblick, putting the Cardinals on the board first. Scoblick and
Amelia Kennedy each added a layup to fight. Senior Kennedy scored a significant 11 points in the first quarter, leading the charge. Catholic closed out the first leading 27 to 17.
With momentum on their side, the Cardinals kept rolling in the second quarter.
McKenna Karlson picked up a three pointer to help maintain a double digit lead in the first minute.
Carly Catania added a layup, her first points of the game.
Anna Kreinbrook made a pair of layups, both off of offensive rebounds.
Lauren Kraft tallied a three with the final seconds on the clock. Catholic headed into the locker room with a 46 to 32 lead.Â
Seniors
Anna Scoblick and
Amelia Kennedy started off the third quarter, guiding the Cardinals to 50 points. Catholic had an impressive defensive showing in the third, limiting Moravian to 11 points. The Cardinals went on a 10 point run, grooving through the third quarter. In the final second of the quarter, senior
Maggie Hughes made a layup.Â
Once again, the Cardinals held the Greyhounds to 11 points in the fourth quarter.
Olivia Boccella closed out the Senior Day win with one of her signature three pointers. The Cardinals dominated on their home court to achieve a 84 to 54 win.Â
12 members of the Catholic squad got on the board against Moravian, four of which finished in the double figures: Kennedy (20), Karlson (12), Scoblick (11), and Kraft (10).
Kennedy led the team against the Greyhounds, going 75% in the field to tally a career-high 20 points. Kennedy also picked up four rebounds, three steals and a block.
Scoblick finished with a double-double performance against the Greyhounds, picking up 10 assists and 11 points. Five of her assists came in the first quarter, where the Cardinals had their highest scoring quarter with 27 points.Â
The Cardinals also won the battle of the boards, recording 45 rebounds to the Greyhounds' 26.
Carly Catania picked up seven rebounds, followed by Anna Kreinbook with five.
With this win, Catholic has now won 13 straight games over Moravian, bringing them to 28-12 in series history. The Cardinals advance their record to 16-5 overall and 13-1 in Landmark play. They will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 11 against Susquehanna. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. at
Franny Murray Court.
