HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Catholic men's lacrosse team traveled to Swan Field on Saturday afternoon for their first away match up of the season against Haverford. The Cardinals fell to the Fords, 2-11.
Haverford opened the scoring just one minute into the contest, with Charlie Vaccaro putting up the first goal. The Fords added two more goals in the first quarter to take an early 3-0 over the Cardinals.
Catholic regrouped in the second quarter, and broke through with a goal from
Cullen Lotz, his fourth of the season. The Cardinals' defense held Haverford to just one goal in quarter two, Â and Catholic trailed 4-1 heading into halftime.
Haverford struck early in the third quarter, but Catholic answered less than a minute later when
Alejandro Masferrer netted an unassisted goal, his second of the season.
The Fords maintained control, extending their lead over the Cardinals with four goals in the final quarter. Despite their best efforts, Catholic fell to Haverford, 2-11, bringing their overall record to 0-2.
Connor Baia led the Cardinals with four ground balls, while
Jake McGowan,
Jack Suchanek, and
Colton Manorek each collected three. McGowan also added two caused turnovers.
In goal, Manorek recorded a career-high 20 saves, surpassing his previous best of 11 saves set in his freshman season against Susquehanna.
Up next, Catholic will return home to Carlini Field to face-off against Ursinus. The game is set for Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m.
