Catholic's Multi-Goal Day Leads to Win Over Moravian

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Catholic women's soccer team improved to 2-0 in Landmark Conference play after sending two shots to the back of the net against Moravian.

The Cardinals took on the Greyhounds in their home conference opener. In the second minute of the game, the Catholic offense challenged the Moravian goalkeeper. Emma Antonetti sent a long shot towards the top of the goal, but Caitlyn Philips made the save.

Reagan O'Mara and Caroline Aponte both logged shots out the left side of the goal in the first 15 minutes of the match. The Cardinals broke through in the 18th minute, the team on the board. Katie Scully connected with O'Mara, who found the back of the net for the Cardinals.

Catholic secured the victory with a late second half penalty goal. Antonetti was one-on-one with the Greyhounds' goalie, after maneuvering around the defense. In a last-ditch effort, the Moravian goalkeeper fouled Antonetti, collecting a yellow card in the process. The Cardinals were awarded a penalty kick and Sara Greaser stepped up to take. The sophomore rocketed the ball to the low left, passing Addy Tally, who guessed correctly. With this, Catholic increased its lead over Moravian to 2-0.

Despite being up 2-0, the Cardinal offense still put up four more shots in the final minutes of the game. When they reached full time, Catholic secured its second Landmark win of the season. This is the first time since 2015 that the Cardinals have started 2-0 in Landmark Conference play.

Inside the box score:
  • Lauren Creamer earned the start in goal for today's matchup and faced no shots, thanks to a solid Catholic defense and midfield. Kelsie Price and Alex Berish once again proved to be essential components of the Cardinal defense as well.

Up next, the Cardinals will travel to Baltimore, Maryland to take on Goucher on Wednesday, October 7th. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Beldon Field.
