Cardinals Show Offensive Prowess At Goucher


TOWSON, Md. – The Catholic women's basketball team traveled to Towson, Md. for a midweek Landmark Conference matchup. The Cardinals showed offensive prowess in their 94 to 52 win over the Gophers.

Lauren Kraft opened the game with a three, giving Catholic the momentum. Kraft continued to put on offensive pressure, scoring double digits in the first quarter alone. The Cardinals secured a significant 24-11 lead at the close of the first quarter. 

The Cardinals continued their offense tear in the second quarter, scoring 21 points. Goucher held Catholic for two minutes until Alexa Kenah made a free throw to put the Cardinals back into rhythm. Kenah collected a pair of threes and Raquel Guidetti added a layup to close out the half. The Cardinals soared over the Gophers 45 to 20 at halftime.

Amelia Kennedy got the Cardinals started in the third quarter with a layup. Catholic went on an 11 point run in the third from 7:05 to 5:40 minutes left. Olivia Boccella came in and scored a three pointer. Anna Kreinbrook added a free throw in the final minute. Boccella tallied another three to end the quarter up 78 to 30.

During the fourth quarter, six Cardinals added to the fight. Just under halfway through the quarter, Molly McLaughlin added a jumper. Ryan Burden sank a three pointer with 4:23 left to play. A layup from Gabrielle Johnson gave Catholic its 50 point lead. Sofia Travieso ended the game with a layup, securing a 94 to 52 win over the Gophers. 

Once again, Olivia Boccella was a key off the bench player for the Cardinals. The sophomore guard put up 12 points in today's win, all threes. 

Lauren Kraft scored 21 points against Goucher, just two shy of her career best. Of those points, 15 are credited to shots beyond the arc and four in the paint. 

Senior Anna Scoblick tallied 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. 

Amelia Kennedy and Carly Catania both scored double digits, 11 and 10 respectively. 

Up next, the Cardinals travel to Wilkes-Barre, Pa. to take on Wilkes on Saturday, January 31st. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. at the Marts Center.
