WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Catholic women's basketball team hosted Lycoming in Landmark Conference play. Sophomore
Olivia Boccella scored 24 points and tied the program record for number of threes made in a game.Â
The Catholic Cardinals scored first thanks to a two pointer made from
Lauren Kraft. From this moment on, the Cardinals never trailed.
Raquel Guidetti made two buckets in a row to help bring the Cardinal lead to 17 to 10 with just over two minutes left in the first quarter. The Warriors added a bucket in the final minute to end the first ten minutes trailing 12 to 17.Â
The Cardinals opened the second quarter with a three minute scoring drought. The Cardinals needed to turn to the bench for a spark to break away from the Warriors.
Olivia Boccella lit the match with back to back three pointers a little under halfway into the quarter. The sophomore guard put up a total of nine points in the quarter, all from beyond the arc. Catholic ended the quarter up 39 to 17 thanks to a bucket from
Alexa Kenah in the final seconds.Â
Kraft opened up the second half with a three pointer, setting the tone for the rest of the game. Boccella continued her three point reign in the third quarter, adding four more.
Ella Iacone ended the quarter with a layup, followed by the fourth three from Boccella, to end the quarter up 72 to 32. Â
Ryan Burden opened up the final ten with a layup. Catholic went on a seven point run credited to two free throws from
Maggie Hughes, a three from
Sofia Travieso, and a
Brooke Kroptavich bucket. The Cardinals, now up 88 to 29, kept utilizing the bench.
Elle Johnson added a bucket with 1:56 minutes left in the game.
Lia Villa scored two layups in the final seconds bringing the Catholic total to 97 points. When the final buzzer sounded, Catholic secured a 97 to 45 victory.
The Cardinal bench came up big in today's win, scoring 68 of the 97 points.Â
Olivia Boccella scored a career high 24 points against Lycoming. The sophomore also collected two steals and two rebounds.Â
Raquel Guidetti and
Lauren Kraft were the other two Cardinals to reach double digits in today's game. Guidetti scored 13 points and shot 100 percent while Kraft earned 12 points.Â
Up next, the Cardinals will take on the Goucher Gophers on Wednesday, January 28th. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. in the Decker Sports & Recreation Center Arena.
