WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Catholic women's basketball team hosted Drew in their first home matchup of the new year. With the 66 to 53 win, Catholic remains undefeated in the Landmark Conference.
Anna Scoblick put points on the board first for the Cardinals with a layup assisted by
McKenna Karlson. The Catholic defense shut out the Rangers during the first three minutes, until Gianna Pica broke through and scored a layup.
Amelia Kennedy, the only Cardinal to shoot 100 percent from the free throw line in the first half, made her buckets with 4:16 left in the quarter. This gave Catholic their first double digit lead of the game at 13 to 2. The Cardinals ended the quarter up 19 to 8.Â
The Cardinals continued to hold their significant lead throughout the whole second quarter.
Raquel Guidetti scored her first basket of the game with 4:41 left, bringing the score to 29 to 16. With just under a minute left in the half,
Ella Iacone sank a three giving Catholic a 13 point lead. Senior Scoblick closed out the quarter with a layup giving Catholic a 36 to 21 lead at the half.
Scoblick reached double digits before the first half ended, scoring six of her total twelve points in the second quarter.Â
Just like she opened the game,
Anna Scoblick scored the first points of the second half with a layup. Drew attempted to shut down Catholic with an 8-2 scoring run, but
Lauren Kraft stopped their surge with a three pointer. Catania scored back-to-back buckets helping the Cardinals keep their impressive lead. Catholic closed out the quarter with a 20 point, leading 56 to 36.
Carly Catania had herself a quarter, scoring a total of eight points.Â
Drew outscored Catholic 17 to 10 in the fourth quarter, but the Cardinal lead held on.Â
Sofia Travieso, a key piece off of the bench, totaled a rebound, an assist, and a bucket in the last quarter. Catholic solidified the 66 to 53 win, remaining undefeated in the Landmark Conference.
Carly Catania had her second double-double of her season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. She also led the Cardinals in both of these categories. Â
Anna Scoblick and
McKenna Karlson both reached double digit points, scoring 12 and 11 respectively.
Up next, the Cardinals will travel to Selinsgrove, Pa. to take on conference opponent Susquehanna on Wednesday, January 14th. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. in Orlando W. Houts Gymnasium.
