Cardinals Fall Short at Home


Washington, D.C. - The Catholic field hockey team falls short 1-0 against Dickinson at home.

Catholic appeared to be evenly matched in the first half with no score on the board. The only action in either circle this half was a Catholic corner in the first quarter and three rapid shots from the Red Devils during the second quarter.

The intensity picked up in the second half with Dickson leading the offensive charge with 6 corners and a total of 8 shots in the third quarter. The height of the intensity for goalkeeper Ella Bowman when Dickinson was awarded a penalty stroke. With Nicole Uebele taking the stroke for the Red Devils, Bowman was able to block the shot to keep the game scoreless. 

The game fell into a frenzy not long after Bowman's penalty save. Minutes after, Dickinson's Maggie Carson was able to redirect a wayward shot from Erin Liggio to put Dickinson on the board and give herself her first goal of the season. Catholic's Anita Sinker was given a green card in the 9th minute followed by teammate Mary Rojack with a yellow card in the 10th minute of the quarter.

The Cardinals were given a total of 6 cards, four of which occurred in the 4th quarter. Dickinson also collected two cards in the final minutes of the game. 

Lauren Keast had the lone Catholic shot of the game. Bowman had a total of 14 saves, a season high. 

Next the Cardinals will head to Bridgerwater, Va. on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m to take on Bridgewater in a non-conference match-up.
