BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Despite out shooting the Eagles, Catholic dropped a road non-conference contest, 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Bridgewater.
The Cardinals logged 16 shots to the Eagles 14 on Wednesday, with both programs recording seven shots on goal in the outing. Erinn Lockard made seven saves for Bridgewater while
Ava Rieger made four saves for the Cardinals.
Bridgewater took the lead with 16:38 remaining in the first half as a corner bounced over the head of Rieger and was finished off by Katherine King. The Cardinals had a chance five minutes later as
Alex Berish put a shot on target, but Lockard turned it away to keep the lead.
Caroline Aponte put a pair of shots on target in the 54th and 55th minute, but Lockard once again turned them away to keep the game 1-0.
In the 68th minute, Kendall Garza beat Rieger off assists from King and Cassandra Villafan to push the lead up to 2-0.
Aponte put another shot on target in the 77th as Catholic tried to make a late push, but was turned away once more. The final shot on target from Catholic came in the 89th minute off an
Isabel Doherty attempt.
Berish and
Teighan Boyle played the whole 90 for the Cardinals.
