Bowman Makes 10 Saves in Loss to the Profs

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Cardinals field hockey team was outshot and out scored in a 4-0 loss against 12th-ranked Rowan.

The Profs came out of the gate early, putting heavy pressure on the Cardinals. Rowan earned two early penalty corners, only getting a shot off in the second one. In the 5th minute of the game, Rowan was awarded a penalty stroke with sophomore Ella Bowman in goal and Rowan's Riley McClelland at the line. McCelland flicked the ball in the air to the side and Bowman made a diving stop to keep the Profs off the board. Shortly after, in the tenth minute, Rowan's Sydney Kowalczyk put the Profs on the board.

The Cardinal defense was able to stand strong during the second quarter, despite continuous pressure from the Profs' offense. Senior captain Mary Rojack helped lead the defense this quarter causing a few turnovers. Rowan put up 7 shots, with 5 on goal. Bowman saved all 5 of the shots on goal.

Catholic was unable to stop an early third quarter goal by Rowan's Kowalczyk. In the 44th minute, the Profs had a lot of offensive action. First, they were awarded a penalty stroke where Alexa Ronning hit the post. After, Bowman made another save on the night. And in the final seconds, Rowan earned itself a corner. Profs' Paige Gray inserted the ball to teammate Alexa Ronning at the top of the circle. In quick fashion, Ronning drove the ball in to give Rowan the 3-0 lead.

During the fourth quarter, Rowan found its fourth and final goal from Jenna Gray. Catholic was able to find its only corner in the 48th minute.

In total, Rowan had 22 shots to Catholic's one with 14-0 on goal. The Profs had a towering 12 corners compared to Catholic's lone corner.

With 10 saves today, goalkeeper Bowman had her second game this season with 10 or more saves.

Up next, the Cardinals will take on Washington College on September 20th at 2 pm in Cardinal Stadium in a non-conference matchup.
