WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic field hockey team falls short in a 2-0 loss to Washington College at home.Â
The Cardinals earned two penalty corners early in the first quarter.
Maddie Pennisi and
Lauren Keast had a shot a piece, one on each corner, but Washington's Charlotte Schurman collected two saves in the process. Despite giving up 3 corners to the Shorewomen in the first quarter, goalkeeper
Ella Bowman and the corner defense were able to keep Washington off the board.
The first goal of the game came from the Shorewomen came from a corner with no time on the clock at the end of the second quarter. Washington earned a corner and Bowman defended the first shot, but the rebound found its way back to the Shorewomen. Samantha McMahon earned her third goal of the season to end the first half. Pennisi had the lone shot for the Cardinals this quarter.
Washington found its second goal in the 3rd minute of the second half. MaryCate Anson earned her 5th goal of the season off of an assist from Emma Campbell.
While having 3 corners in the fourth quarter, Catholic was unable to convert.
Tess Hake and Keast each had a shot attempt this quarter.Â
The Shorewomen outshot the Cardinals 15 to 5, with 13 to 4 on goal. Catholic was also outnumbered on corners 11-6.
With 11 saves, this marks Bowman's third game of the season with 10 or more saves.
Up next, the Cardinals will travel to Salisbury, Md. to take on #4 Salisbury on Wednesday, September 24th at 6 p.m.
