Washington, D.C. - Catholic women's soccer fell in their season opener against Franklin and Marshall on Friday evening in a 2-0 contest.
Despite both teams having 11 shots, and four shots on goal each, Catholic was unable to find the back of the net while Franklin and Marshall scored twice.
Franklin and Marshall's Emerson McDonald scored the first goal of the game off of a long ball from Collen Ferrarese in the 31st minute. Ferrarese picked up her second assist in the 41st minute when Meg Balerna poked the ball through on a header.
Ava Rieger made two saves, one in each half. The first was an early save in the thirteenth minute keeping a pair of zeros on the scoreboard. The second was a spectacular diving save to the right that kept the Diplomats from scoring in the second half.
Captain Teighan Boyle and Rieger saw all 90 minutes of the home opener for the Cardinals. Defender Meredith Dunsmore earned the start and clocked in a total of 78 minutes.
Next up, Catholic will be home against St. John Fisher at 1 p.m on August 30th.
