Box Score
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic women's soccer team scored early to seize its first win of the season against St. John Fisher on Saturday afternoon.
In their second game of the season, the Catholic Cardinals created a handful of opportunities to score with thirteen shots and five on goal. In the twentieth minute, the Cardinals made their way downfield, creating some action inside the box. A flurry of quick one-touch passes from
Caroline Aponte and
Alex Berish allowed
Peyton Coron to send the ball to the back of the net. This standalone goal from senior Coron gave the Cardinals the first victory on Carlini Field for the 2025 season and her 11th career goal.
Not only did Berish chalk up an assist this game, she had an impressive defensive showing. She was one of two athletes to complete all 90 minutes in the field, the other being goalkeeper
Ava Rieger. Rieger had five saves, a handful of them diving, to keep the Cardinals of St. John Fisher off of the board, making this game her 24th career shutout. St. John Fisher did not make it easy on the defense with eleven shots and five on goal, but defenders Berish,
Teighan Boyle, and
Erin Doyle held down the fort. Freshman defender
Ava Moran earned her first start of the season and contributed to the defensive efforts as well.
Up next, the Cardinals will be taking their first road trip of the season out to Bridgewater, Va to play Bridgewater on Sept. 3rd at 4 p.m.
