EMMITSBURG, Md. - Catholic men's cross country opened the 2025 fall campaign with a strong showing, placing second at the Mount St. Mary's 5K Duals. The Cardinals placed second out of seven teams, totaling 77 points, finishing only behind Division I program UMBC.
With 11 of the top 13 finishers coming from Division I programs or running Unattached, Catholic freshman
Michael Brunet finished second among Division III competitors, placing 13th to lead the effort. Brunet clocked a time of 16:22.7, finishing only behind McDaniel's Jack Sears who placed seventh with a time of 16:00.0. Brunet's finish tallied 10 points for the Cardinals to lead a group of seven Cardinals to finish in the top 30.
Just seven seconds behind Brunet came
Joe Wolfe, a graduate who returns to action for Catholic in 2025 after studying abroad during the 2024 cross country season. A two-time all-conference selection, Wolfe placed 15th with a time of 16:29.9. Wolfe's previous best 5K time in cross country was 17:38.4 at this same event in 2021.
Joey Locke placed 17th in the event with a time of 16:35.2, an eight-second improvement on his previous top competitive 5K time.
A tight pack of Cardinal runners finished within three seconds of each other, taking the 27th-30th spots in the event with
Patrick Morris leading the back with a time of 17:00.9. Next came
Peter Winter (17:01.0) and
Alexandre Ramos (17:02.5) with
David Stango (17:03.9) rounding out the pack.
Catholic's 77 points was six points better than Division I Howard and 14 points better than Gettysburg, the next-best Division III finisher in the event.
