Donley Cup Nominees Announced

WASHINGTON, D.C. - On Thursday, May 15, the Catholic University Athletic Department will hold its annual senior celebration in the Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center. 

During the live event, the department will reveal the winners of its seven major awards. We continue to announce this year's award nominees, moving on to the Donley Cup. This prestigious award is presented to the female student-athlete who demonstrates excellence in four distinct areas over the senior's career at Catholic—academic, athletic, leadership and service.

Student-athletes are nominated for these awards by their head coach and all nominees voted upon by members of the department to decide a winner. The winners will be announced live on May 15.

The six nominees for this year's Harris Cup are Lauren Bendo, Keegan Douglas, Amy Gastright, Grace Guerin, Emily Moehringer and Emma Shallow.

LAUREN BENDO

A Garnet Valley, Pa. native, Bendo is a four-year member of the Catholic women's lacrosse program. She has played in 75 games in her career, making 66 starts in defense and has racked up 127 ground balls, 73 caused turnovers, 45 draw controls, four goals and an assist. She has been selected to the All-Landmark team three times in her career, twice on the first team (2025, 2023) and once on the second team (2024). She was a part of the 2022 Landmark Conference Championship team and has played on two teams that advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. Bendo picked up a career-high 41 ground balls in 2024 as well as a career-high in draw controls with 33, which included three draw controls and two ground balls in the team's 19-5 win over Meredith in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. She set a career-high in caused turnovers in her senior season with 23. 

"Lauren embodies the premise of Division III athletics: since she arrived on campus, she has had an impact on the field and throughout our university community," said head coach Meghan McDonogh. "She has excelled in the classroom and has tremendous involvement in the Busch School as a mentor, TA, tutor and as a sales ambassador and has also played a significant role on the field each year, taking a larger and larger role each season."

Bendo boasts a 3.82 GPA and is earning her degree in Accounting. She was named to the CSC At-Large Academic All District Team in 2024, one of just six women student-athletes in the department as well as being placed on the IWLCA and Landmark Spring Academic Honor Roll. She was on the Dean's List with Highest Distinction in both 2023 and 2024. She is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society and has been in the Accounting Society, a Busch School Mentor and a Sales Ambassador throughout her collegiate career. Bendo was a Morgan's Message Ambassador during her sophomore year and has also served as a Teacher's Assistant and Busch School Tutor. 

"She is a competitor that sets a high bar for herself and others, while also being one of the most present and biggest supporters of her fellow athletes," said McDonogh.

KEEGAN DOUGLAS

Douglas hails from Haddonfield, N.J. and is a three-year member of the Catholic women's basketball program. Douglas played in 82 games, making 76 starts in her Catholic career and averaged 10.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game over her three seasons. She is a two-time First Team All-Landmark selection and is 14th all-time in program history in career assists with 202. She broke out in her junior season, leading the team with 13.4 points per game with 3.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game to help lead the team to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in program history and the first time since 2013. The team spent a portion of the season in the top 10 in each the WBCA Coaches Poll and the D3hoops.com poll during her junior and senior season.

"I simply cannot say enough great things about the resilience, character, growth, leadership, and work ethic of Keegan Douglas," said head coach Matt Donohue. "I have been the head coach here at Catholic University for seventeen years and what Keegan Douglas has done in her three years on the court for the Cardinals is simply astounding."

Away from the court, Douglas boasts a 3.6 GPA and is earning her degree in Psychology. She has made the Landmark Winter Academic Honor Roll in each of her three seasons and has also been on the Dean's List throughout her time at Catholic. Douglas is also a member of the Psi Chi Psychology Honor Society. She has volunteered her time with many different organizations during her time at Catholic including the Mother Teresa Day of Service, MLK Day of Service, Beacon House/Girls In Action Mentor Program, the CUA WBB Ulman Cancer Fund and Special Olympics. 

"Flashing her trademark Keegan Smile, she has lead, achieved, and filled up the record books, and stat sheets like few others in our program's history before her," said Donohue. "As a captain and leader in our program for multiple years, Keegan has been the heart and soul of our program and a significant driving force behind the most successful period in women's basketball teams in the history of Catholic University."

AMY GASTRIGHT

A Croom, Md. native, Gastright is a three-year member of the Catholic softball team. She has played in 92 games in her career, making 79 starts and she holds a career average of .305 with 78 hits, 18 doubles, six home runs and 54 RBI. She was recently honored as a First Team All-Landmark player this season, batting .278 with 10 extra-base hits and a career-high 21 RBI. She is a part of a team that has set the program record for wins in a single-season with 30 so far this season and are poised to make a run in the Landmark Conference Tournament as the second seed.

"Amy continues to grow on the softball field as she excels in her studies and work with the Army ROTC," said head coach Sophie Maccarone. "Amy is a great teammate and leader on the field.
She is at the Dufour Center many hours per week working on bettering herself for the overall betterment of her team."

Gastright holds a 3.97 GPA and is a double major, earning degrees in both English and French. She has made the Landmark Spring Academic Honor Roll twice in her career and has been on the Dean's List all three of her years at Catholic. Gastright is a member of Pi Delta Phi French Honor Society and is also deeply involved in the Georgetown Hoya Battalion Army ROTC. Some of her duties in ROTC include leading workouts three times a week as well as leading field training exercises once a month. Gastright has also spent her time over the past years as a volunteer softball coach for Capitol Hill Little League.

"Amy exemplified academics, athletics, service, and leadership which makes her the perfect candidate for the Donley Cup Award," said Maccarone.

GRACE GUERIN

Guerin hails from Wayne, Pa. and is a four-year member of the Catholic volleyball program. She played in 127 matches in her career and totaled 583 kills, 373 blocks, 124 digs and 35 service aces while holding a career hit percentage of .225. She was selected to the All-Landmark Second Team in her senior season and earned honorable mention honors in her junior year. In her junior season, Guerin recorded the fifth-highest hit percentage in a single-season in program history at .325 and her .225 career hitting percentage ranks ninth in program history. She was always a force as a middle blocker as she recorded a career-high 127 total blocks, which ranked 10th in the country,  in 2024 while also leading the team in kills with 221. Her efforts helped the Cardinals win their first match in the Landmark Conference Tournament since 2013, 3-1 over Susquehanna in the first round. She ranks second in blocks assists (246), fourth in sets played (449), fifth in total blocks (373) and tied for seventh in matches played (127) in program history.

"Grace Guerin is the heart of her team, lifting every teammate—freshman to senior—with unwavering support and leadership," said head coach Casey Burford. "She leads by example, pushing those around her to be their best while fostering a culture of respect and camaraderie."

Guerin boasts a 3.44 GPA and is earning her degree in Business Marketing. She has made the Landmark Fall Academic Honor Roll three times and has been on the Dean's List multiple times in her collegiate career. She has volunteered with several organizations while at Catholic including the Busch School of Business Clothing Drive, DC Special Olympics, Dunbar High School's volleyball clinic and has been a SAAC member throughout her time at school. 

"No matter the challenge, she carries herself with grace and humility, always putting the program's success above all else," said Burford. "She has left the program better than she found it, equipping her teammates to step up as leaders who will carry on her legacy after graduation."


EMILY MOEHRINGER

A native of Bellmore, N.Y., Moehringer is a four year member of both the Catholic women's cross country program and women's track and field program. Moehringer has been an NCAA All-American three times in her track career, twice in indoor and once in outdoor. She has been an individual champion at the Landmark Conference tournament four times and has found a spot on the All-Landmark team 11 times in her track career. She holds school record in four different events including the indoor 800m, the indoor mile, the indoor DMR and the indoor 4x400m and she holds the Landmark record in the DMR and 4x400m. Moehringer holds two records at the Landmark Championships in the indoor mile and outdoor 4x400m. In cross country, she was a key part of a team that won back-to-back Landmark Championships for the first time in program history in her junior and senior year. 

"Emily's candidacy for the Donley Cup Award is a model example of excellence in academics,
athletics, leadership, and service," said head coach Steve Rahn. "A standout in Catholic University's highly competitive Nursing program, Emily has maintained an impressive 3.909 cumulative GPA, all while competing at the highest levels of NCAA Division III athletics."

Moehringer is earning her degree in Nursing with a Spanish for Healthcare Certificate. She has been on the Dean's List every semester she has been at Catholic and is a two-time CSC Academic All-District selection. Moehringer has also earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors all four years in college and is a part of the University Honors Program while also being a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society. She has been a constant volunteer with the MLK Jr. Day of Service and Mother Theresa Day of Service and has also worked with Shooting Stars Running Program which helps children with disabilities run. She also volunteered with BuildOn during her sophomore year to help build a school in Nicaragua.

"Her athletic career is marked not only by speed and strength, but also by her ability to elevate her teammates in relays and championship meets," said Rahn. She has been a vital part of a team that has secured conference titles and top national finishes, playing a key role in the most successful era in program history. In every way, Emily embodies the spirit of the Donley Cup: excellence with heart,
humility, and purpose."

EMMA SHALLOW

Shallow hails from Havertown, Pa. and is a four-year member of the Catholic field hockey program. She played in 58 games throughout her career, making 49 starts while totaling three goals, four assists and seven defensive saves. Shallow earned Second Team All-Landmark honors in her senior season after tallying an impressive six defensive saves which was tied for the fourth-most in a season in program history. She was also a part of a team in 2022 that won the Landmark Conference for the first time since 2015 to advance to the NCAA Tournament. She scored two goals and recorded an assist that season while also winning Landmark Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week once.

"Emma has organized our possession play, recovered tirelessly to break down the opponent's momentum, and has fearlessly taken on the role as post player on our defensive penalty corners," said head coach Rachel Palumbo. "During her time here, Emma has made incredible leaps in her performance – showing her teammates through discipline and hard work that you can do anything if you believe in yourself."

Shallow has a 3.37 GPA and is earning her degree in Nursing. She has been selected to the Landmark Fall Academic Honor Roll three times in her college career and has also been named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad three times. She has been a constant volunteer throughout her time at Catholic, offering her service to Special Olympics, Best Buddies Friendship Walk, MLK Day of Service and served as the Special Olympics Chair for SAAC her freshman year. 
"She modeled the extra effort that is necessary to get better each day," said Palumbo. "The value that she brings to every aspect of our culture can't be overstated. Emma's leadership exemplifies what is necessary in a servant leader and it is an honor to nominate her for this award."
