Cardinals Cruise to Home Victory over Goucher

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic offense clicked into high gear on Wednesday night, defeating Goucher 18-4 in a Landmark Conference contest. The Cardinals improved to 3-2 in Landmark play, using an eight-goal third quarter to break things open. 

Ryan Carickhoff recorded his second career four-goal game to lead five players with multiple goals in the effort. Brady McMahon logged two goals and two assists while Steven Dezelic, Logan Farrington, and Fitz McLaughlin all scored two goals. 

The Cardinals scored the first three with Carickhoff starting things off, followed by Farrington and McLaughlin. Goucher responded with the next two before the Cardinals scored the next 11, spanning into the third period. McMahon and Billy Burton scored 27 seconds apart in the first to put Catholic ahead 5-2. 

Catholic tacked on three more in the second, getting a goal from Cullen Lotz and two more from Carickhoff to send the Cardinals to halftime ahead 8-2. McMahon, McLaughlin, and Farrington all scored their second goals of the game early in the third before Carickhoff's fourth of the contest put Catholic up 12-2. Dezelic scored to make it 13-2 before Matt Shandley scored his fifth goal of the season to make it 14-2. Dezelic and Victor Rosado scored the final two goals of the third, pushing Catholic's lead to 16-3. 

In the fourth, John Hadden scored his third of the season while Shawn Zebrowski added career goal number one to the tally, making it 18-3. 

Rosado totaled four points (1 goal, 3 assists), moving him into a tie for second in Catholic history with 190 points. His goal was the 99th of his career and ties Jimmy Sinnott for sixth all-time. 

Ryan Macksoud owned the Gophers at the face-off X, winning 20-of-22 while corralling 14 ground balls. Rosado caused two turnovers while Mike Tayloe added a caused turnover and four ground balls. Liam Daly, Colton Manorek, and Nicholas Mort all saw time in goal for the Cardinals, combining for nine saves. 

Catholic will host Moravian on Saturday at 1 p.m.
