Cardinals Lead Throughout, Defeat Susquehanna 16-12

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Catholic men's lacrosse led Susquehanna from start to finish in a 16-12 win on Wednesday evening at Sassafras Multipurpose Field. The Cardinal moved to 4-7 overall and 2-1 in the Landmark Conference.

Catholic was led by Billy Burton and Steven Dezelic, who both had impressive days with four goals apiece. The pair scored the first two goals of the game in the opening minute of action, with Burton getting the Cardinal offense started less than 20 seconds in and Dezelic doubling the advantage at the 14:04 mark. Both scored two goals in the first quarter, one in the third, and one in the fourth to help the Cardinals remain in front throughout.

Victor Rosado joined the four-point club with four assists on the day, bringing his career assist total to 87. Brady McMahon followed with two goals and an assist for three points while Fitz McLaughlin two goals to become the four Cardinal with a multi-goal game. Cullen Lotz, Matt Moore, Matt Shandley, and Mike Mulligan rounded out the goal scores for Catholic as each found the back of the cage once.

The Cardinal defense held its own against the competitive conference foe. The River Hawks came into the contest averaging over 44 shots per game but was held under that mark, only getting off 37 today. Only four Susquehanna players recorded a multiple-goal game and none of them had more than two. Zach Gibson caused two turnovers with his effort, while Mason Russo, Mike Tayloe, and Jack Dwyer each came away with one. Goalie Colton Manorek saved 11 shots and picked up his second career win in his rookie campaign.

Face-off man Ryan Macksoud continued to thrive as he won 19-of-31 from the center x. He also scooped up eight ground balls to surpass 280 pickups in his career.

Catholic scored the first three goals of the game before trading goals with the River Hawks to secure a 5-3 lead after the opening quarter. The second quarter saw both teams take turns with two-goal spurts until the half came to a close with the Cardinal advantage increasing by one, 9-6. Catholic maintained a three-goal lead for a majority of the second half and finished up four with the final tally of the contest coming with 4:39 remaining.

The Cardinals are back at home for their next contest on Saturday, April 5 when Scranton comes to town for a 2 p.m. start.
