MADISON, N.J. - Catholic outscored Drew 7-4 in the second half, but couldn't overcome a five-goal halftime deficit in its first road game in Landmark Conference play on Saturday.
Trailing 9-4 at the break, Catholic came out dominant in the third quarter, scoring the first four goals of the period to pull within one.
Mike Mulligan scored his second goal of the game with 12:32 on the quarter clock to start a spurt of three goals in 21 seconds. Mulligan was followed just moments later by
Erik Aulbach before
Billy Burton's second of the contest made it a 9-7 game.
Steven Dezelic, also scoring his second of the game, pulled Catholic within a goal with 9:30 left in the period. Only one more goal would find the net in the third as Matt Giordano scored for Drew to give the Rangers a two-goal lead entering the fourth.
Giordano's late third-quarter goal sparked the Rangers as they would score the first three goals of the fourth to build a 13-8 advantage with 3:23 remaining. Catholic furiously put in three goals in the final 2:30, but it was not enough in the 13-11 road loss to the Rangers.
Mulligan added two assists to go with his two goals while
Victor Rosado added a goal and three assists. Rosado sits just three goals shy of 100 for his Catholic career.
Brady McMahon,
Fitz McLaughlin, and
Cullen Lotz rounded out the goal scorers for Catholic.
Ryan Macksoud added seven ground balls while
Mason Russo and Burton each had four.
Colton Manorek started in goal, making 11 saves.
Catholic will travel to Susquehanna on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. contest with the River Hawks.
