HUNTINGDON, Pa. — The Catholic baseball team entered Sunday's game against Juniata with a chance to earn a three game sweep of the Eagles. The offense continued the dominance it showed yesterday for the Cardinals, putting up 14 more runs to help the team coast to a 14-2 win in seven innings.
The Cardinals formed a threat from the opening pitch as
Steve Thomas singled to start the game off followed by back-to-back walks from
Sammy Burman and
Mitchel Johnson to load the bases with no one out.
Dante Pozzi drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly and
Matthew Fisher doubled the Catholic lead with an RBI on a fielder's choice to make it 2-0.
Catholic loaded up the bases once again the very next inning, spurred by a lead-off walk from
Zach Burton, followed by two straight singles from Thomas and Burman. Johnson brought in the first run of the inning on a sacrifice fly into left field and Pozzi notched his second RBI on a ground out to third to push the lead to 4-0.
The game was blown wide open in the top of the fourth inning when the Cardinals brought in eight runs on nine hits to open the lead up to 12. Six different Cardinals picked up RBI in the inning including two more for Johnson who drove in a run in both of his at-bats in the inning.
Sam Fairhurst turned in a quality for Catholic, working through six innings, only allowing two runs on three hits and punching out a career-high eight batters to keep the Cardinals in the driver's seat throughout the game.
Lucky Perrotto came in to finish things off in the seventh inning, setting the side down in order to give Catholic a 14-2 win. The Cardinals are now 12-7 on the year and 5-2 in Landmark play after sweeping the Eagles.

- Thomas and Burman led the Catholic offense in hits with three each while also scoring a combined six runs between the two of them. The two lead the team in multi-hit games this season with Burman having nine and Thomas recording eight.
- Over the three game set, the Cardinals put up 37 runs on 37 hits to help complete the sweep of the Eagles. Catholic has now won eight straight games over Juniata with an average margin of victory of 6.9 runs in those matchups.
