SALISBURY, Md. - No. 2 Salisbury raced out to a 7-0 lead and held a 13-goal advantage at the break as they defeated the Catholic Cardinals on Saturday afternoon, 22-5.
In 43 minutes off the bench,
Colton Manorek made 10 saves to help limit the damage against one of the most prolific offensive threats in the country. The second-ranked Gulls took 64 shots in the contest and won 23-of-31 face-offs.
Five different Cardinals scored in the losing effort, starting with
Victor Rosado who ended the 7-0 run to start the game with his 13th of the season.
Steven Dezelic scored late in the first half on an assist from
Erik Aulbach.
After a scoreless third quarter,
Matt Moore put home his first goal of the campaign with an assist from graduate transfer
Billy Burton who returned to the field this week for the first time this season. Burton would go on to score the final Catholic goal of the contest, following up
Bjorn Olofson's second goal of the season a few minutes earlier.
Mason Russo made an impression on defense, causing four turnovers and picking up two ground balls for the Cardinals.
Catholic remains on the road on Wednesday at Mary Washington. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Fredericksburg, Va.
