WASHINGTON, D.C. - Vincent and Ellen Sica Endowed Head Football Coach Mike Gutelius has announced the promotion of Offensive Line Coach George Coles to Offensive Coordinator effective immediately. 

Coles enters his third season in the Landmark Conference and second at Catholic after joining the staff to coach the Offensive Line in April, 2024. 

"I am very excited to make Coach (George) Coles the next Offensive Coordinator at Catholic U," said Gutelius. "He has been working hard to help our offense take positive steps forward and his extensive hours working on what we need to do to get even better in such a competitive conference has been a huge asset."

The position came open after Associate Head Coach Jonathan Rutledge accepted an off-field position on the Florida State coaching staff. 

Coles helped the Cardinals to a 5-5 season in 2024, the fourth straight season of .500 or better for Catholic Football. Under his tutelage, junior tackle Ben Ciesielski was named to the All-Landmark Second Team while the Cardinal coaches earned Landmark Coaching Staff of the Year. 

"Coach Coles has also taken over as our Recruiting Coordinator, which in Division III is not a small 
task to help move the program to a higher level," said Gutelius. "I have been very impressed with his "can do" attitude, but even more impressed with his ability to keep a heavily positive attitude as more gets added to his plate."
