Flaherty and Scoblick Highlight Dominant Catholic Win Over Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa.  — The 16th ranked Catholic women's basketball team looked to bounce back off a loss over the weekend with a road trip to take on Juniata on Wednesday afternoon. After scoring the first 11 points of the game the Cardinals cruised throughout the contest and came away with a 26-point win over the Eagles to complete the regular season sweep.

The Cardinals opened the game up strong in the opening quarter and took a 22-12 advantage into the second. This included the first 11 points of the game going to Catholic while opening up the contest on a 16-2 run capped off by an Anna Scoblick layup. The Cardinals also found a rhythm from three in the opening quarter, shooting 4-for-8 with Kerry Flaherty knocking down a pair of threes. Five Cardinals finished the first half with five or more points and Catholic took a 33-17 lead into the break. Catholic held Juniata to just five points in the second quarter while also holding the Eagles to just 2-for-13 (15%) from the field.

Catholic had its highest offensive output in the third quarter to continue to build the lead coming out of the half. Flaherty went 3-for-3 from deep in the quarter and the Cardinals as team shot 50% from three and beyond the arc. Catholic continued to add on to the lead in the fourth quarter and had some of their depth players show up as Ella Iacone scored five points off the bench to help close out a convincing 74-48 win to pick up win number 19 of the season. The win marked Catholic's 12th consecutive win over Juniata and the fifth consecutive win while playing in Huntingdon.

Flaherty led the team with 15 points while making a season-high tying five threes (5-for-9) and putting up eight rebounds and four assists. Flaherty's season three-point total now sits at 52 which is the fifth-most in a single season in program history. Scoblick and Keegan Douglas came in behind her with 14 each, both shooting 50% from the floor. Scoblick also pulled down 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season and eighth of her career. Carly Mulvaney was also solid in the win, scoring nine points and pulling down eight rebounds.

The game marked the sixth time this season that Catholic has made 11 or more threes in a game. The Cardinals are 6-0 in those contests with an average margin of victory of 31.3 points.

The Cardinals remain on the road for their next contest on Saturday, February 15 when they take on Drew. Tip off is set for 2 pm at the Baldwin Gymnasium.
