TOWSON, Md. – Catholic volleyball's senior middle blocker
Erin Faughnan was named Landmark Athlete of the Week after helping the team go 2-0 in Landmark play last week, it was announced today. It is the first time in Faughnan's career that she has earned the award and she is the first player to do so under second year head coach
Casey Burford.
Faughnan had an extremely efficient week offensively for the Cardinals in the two matches, starting off against Elizabethtown, where she had 11 kills on 15 swings for a .667 hit percentage in a 3-1 win. She also added three blocks on the defensive end in the win. Catholic had to rally back from down 2-0 to defeat Susquehanna 3-2 in a game where Faughnan had a season-high 16 kills while hitting .483 with six digs and four blocks. Her six digs were also a season-high.
Faughnan is currently second on the team and 13th in the conference in kills this season with 205, which is just 12 shy of her career-high in a single season. She is second in the Landmark in hit percentage at .352 on the season, which is her career-best and currently ranks as the top hit percentage in a single-season in program history (min. 300 attempts). She is also second on the team in blocks with 49 and she now has 266 in her career, which ranks 10th in program history.
The Cardinals wrap up the regular season on Thursday, November 6 against Gallaudet on the road. The match is set to start at 7 pm.
