Rieger Breaks Career Shutout Record in Big Win Against Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Catholic women's soccer team traveled to Bethlehem, Pa. to collect their first Landmark win 5-0 against Moravian.

In the final minute of the first half, the Cardinals were fouled in the box, giving way to a penalty kick. Alex Berish stepped up to line with Caitlyn Philips in goal for the Greyhounds. Captain Berish shot the ball to the left, just out of reach of Philips, putting the Cardinals on the board.

Catholic came out hot in the start of the second half, getting 5 shots off in the first 7 minutes. In the 56th minute, Teighan Boyle collected the pass from a free kick and made a pass to Payton Hardy. Hardy one-touched the ball to the left side, crossing up Philips, to put the Cardinals ahead 2-0.

In the 75th minute Emily Harkins carried the ball to the goal line and crossed it to Berish. Berish decisively shot and collected the Cardinals' third goal, and her second goal of the game.

The Cardinals continued offensive pressure, putting another goal on the board in the 77th minute. Peyton Coron received a pass from Abby McCall to increase the lead to 4-0. Senior McCall made her first appearance of the season count, collecting her first career assist.

Despite an impressive lead, the Cardinals did not let up. Boyle earned the Cardinals 5th and final goal of the game in the 83rd minute, sealing the first conference win for the Cardinals.

With today's shutout against Moravian, senior goalkeeper Ava Rieger collected her 26th career shutout and broke the current program record, previously set by Lexi Halperin (2012-15). Rieger made 2 saves this game as well, one in each half.

The Cardinals outplayed the Greyhounds, collecting 20 shots to 8, with 11-2 on goal. Isabel Doherty led the Cardinals with 7 shots and teammates Kelsie Price and Berish each had 3.

Up next, Catholic will host Goucher in a conference matchup at Carlini Field on October 7th at 7 p.m.
