Cardinals Come Out on Top in Hard Fought Battle Against Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Catholic Women's soccer team traveled to Selinsgrove, Pa. for a weekday conference matchup against Susquehanna and came away with a 1-0 win.

The Cardinals offense came out strong in the first minutes, but were unable to convert early. Seniors Ava Gregorio, Alex Berish, Peyton Coron, and Isabel Doherty all chalked up a shot in the first half, along with freshman Reagan O'Mara.

After a long hard fought 78 minutes, the Cardinals found a way to put themselves on the board. Berish collected the ball around the half and sent it down to Isabel Doherty. After a few quick passes and possession changes, Caroline Aponte found Doherty once again. The senior maneuvered around her defender and sent into the back of the net to bring the score to 1-0 for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals and River Hawks were evenly matched, going 10-8 shots on the night, respectively. Goalkeeper Ava Rieger faced five shots on goal and collected five saves, keeping the Cardinals in the game.

Doherty led the Cardinals with four shots and Coron followed with two in today's matchup against the River Hawks.

Isabel Doherty now has three goals on the season and is tied for second in the team lead.

With her shutout today, senior goalkeeper Ava Rieger is now at 28 total shutouts.

Up next, the Cardinals travel to Scranton, Pa. to take on Scranton in a Landmark Conference matchup on Saturday, October 25th at 1 p.m.
