WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Catholic volleyball team took on Scranton on Saturday, looking to extend its win streak to three. The Cardinals battled throughout the match against the Royals but fell 3-1 while playing multiple competitive sets.
The Cardinals got out to a 19-12 in the opening set with a 5-1 run with kills from
Julia Turchiano,
Mariana Roman Cruz and
Alani Rivera Diaz gave the Cardinals a seven point advantage. The Royals rallied back and took all of the last five volleys to edge the Cardinals out 26-24. Scranton hit .205 in the set to take a 1-0 lead.
After the Royals captured a 2-0 lead by taking the second set convincingly, 25-11. The Cardinals battled back in the third set to force a fourth set, winning 25-19. Catholic hit .455 in this set with their match-high 17 kills to stay alive in the match.
In the fourth set, the Cardinals found themselves behind 23-20 but they fought back and a kill by
Erin Faughnan tied things up at 23.
Tanya Sichling added a kill to pull Catholic back even at 24 but the Royals took the last two volleys to take a 3-1 win. The Cardinals fell to 9-13 on the season and 5-2 in conference play with the loss.

Julia Raab each recorded 10 kills to lead Catholic in the match with Turchiano adding nine.Berra led the Cardinals in assists with 21.
Alejandra Garcia recorded a team-high 11 digs and Raab recorded another double-double by adding 10 digs.
The Cardinals next match is against the Pratt Institute on Saturday, October 25 at 2 pm.
