WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Catholic women's soccer team hosts Drew for Cardinal Weekend and collects a decisive 4-0 win.
The Cardinals dominated on offense early with shots from
Alex Berish,
Caroline Aponte,
Teighan Boyle, and
Ava Gregorio. In the 19th minute, senior
Peyton Coron had a pair of her own shots before finding the back of the net to put Catholic on the board for a 1-0 lead against Drew.
Senior
Isabel Doherty increased the Cardinals lead to 2-0 after poking the ball past the Rangers' goalkeeper Dani Iannelli in the 28th minute.
In the 45th minute, freshman
Reagan O'Hara earned her first career goal and secured a significant 3-0 lead for the Cardinals just before halftime. O'Hara was assisted by sophomore midfielder
Meredith Dunsmore.
During halftime, the Cardinals recognized the 2005 and 2015 championship teams. Alumni players and coaches also received recognition in honor of Cardinal Weekend.
Catholic continued its offense pressure in the second half with 13 shots and 7 corners.Â
Erin Doyle found open teammate
Sam Cesario in the penalty box in the 65th minute. Cesario collected the pass and sent the ball sailing to give Catholic the 4-0 lead.
The Cardinal defense held the Rangers to one shot and one corner during today's Landmark matchup.
With her goal today, freshman
Reagan O'Mara chalked up her first career goal as a Cardinal.
Caroline Aponte led Catholic in shots at 6 in today's matchup against Drew. Aponte now is second in the conference for shots at 52 in 14 games played.
Up next, Catholic will travel to Selinsgrove, Pa. to take on Susquehanna in a Landmark Conference matchup at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21st.
