Kubasko Scores First Career Goal in Loss to Elizabethtown

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Catholic field hockey team hosted Elizabethtown in a midweek conference matchup and fell 5-1.

The Blue Jays scored first on the night late in the first quarter. In the 12th minute, Hannah Long found Kaylie Noel in the circle. Noel collected the pass and shot just out of the reach of goalkeeper Ella Bowman to earn her first goal of the season.

Elizabethtown added on in the 3rd minute of the second quarter. Senior Drew Bridges collected her 13th goal of the season with a shot to the bottom boards.

Despite not scoring in the second quarter, the Cardinals outshot the Blue Jays 6 to 2. These shots came from Tess Hake, Caroline Caputo (2), Lauren Keast, Molly Romano, and Mary Rojack. All 6 of these shots were off of awarded corners in the first 8 minutes of the second quarter. Elizabethtown's Emma Dupes collected 5 saves from these 6 shots.

In the 3rd quarter, Elizabethtown doubled their score with goals in the 5th and 11th minutes. Bridges earned her 14th goal, maneuvering around the Catholic defense, while Calleigh Hoy scored her first goal of the season off of a pass from Hannah Long.

The Blue Jays' Sophie Myers scored Elizabethtown's 5th and final goal in the 7th minute of the fourth quarter.

At the start of the fourth quarter, Lily DeBlasio entered the game as the Blue Jays goalkeeper. After collecting two saves about halfway through the quarter, Catholic was able to put one past DeBlasio. Freshman Annalise Kubasko scored her first goal of the season off of a pass from Keast in the 13th minute of the 4th quarter. This is Keast's second assist of the season.

Kubasko earned her first career goal in tonight's matchup. She is now the 7th different Catholic player to have scored on the season. Keast's assist was her second of the season, which now ties her for most assists this season. Sophia Gomez led the Cardinals with 3 shots, 2 of which were on goal.

Up next, the Cardinals travel to Madison, N.J. to take on Drew at 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 18th.
