Cardinals Collect a Road Win at Elizabethtown


ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Catholic women's soccer team traveled to Elizabethtown, Pa. to defeat Landmark opponent Elizabethtown 3-1.

In the 41st minute, the Cardinals put themselves on the board. Catholic earned a corner kick and sent the ball in. After battling back-and-forth for possession, Caroline Aponte secured the ball and crossed the ball to teammate Katie Scully. Scully one-touched the pass to the back of the net, securing an early lead for the Cardinals.

Senior Sam Cesario extended the lead for the Cardinals with a solo goal in the 19th minute of the 2nd half. Cesario brought the ball up the field and shot from the top of the penalty box, placing the ball in the top right corner of the goal. With this goal, Cesario has now scored in back-to-back games for the first time in her career. 

Kaitlyn Houri scored the third and final goal of the night in the 87th minute of the game for the Cardinals, solidifying a dominant win. 

Elizabethtown's Ella Fasnacht scored the lone goal for the Blue Jays from a double assist from Jenna Hoffmann and Olivia Herbert in the 88th minute.

The Cardinals outshot the Blue Jays 31 to 5, with 10 to 3 on goal. 

Up next, the Cardinals will host Drew at Carlini Field on Saturday, October 18th at 3:30 p.m. for Cardinal Weekend.
