WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Catholic field hockey team traveled to Lycoming on Monday afternoon for a Landmark matchup, looking to get back to .500 in conference play on the season. Despite taking a 1-0 lead in the first half, the Cardinals allowed a goal in each of the final two quarters to fall to Warriors 2-1.
The Cardinals opened the scoring in the second quarter off a penalty corner to take a 1-0 advantage.
Katie Flynn played a pass right in front of goal and
Bella Reyes took the pass and riffled a shot into the back of the cage to put Catholic on top.
Ella Bowman made three saves in the first half to keep the Warriors off the board, allowing the Cardinals to take a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
Lycoming found an equalizing goal in the third quarter with five minutes left in the quarter when Lacy Erckard scored from the middle of the circle to even up the game at one. The Cardinals prevented the Warriors from scoring off a corner in the late second of the third to keep the match knotted up on one.
The Warriors captured their first lead of the game late in the fourth quarter, setting up the chance with a penalty corner. Loghan Shelly received a pass from Katie Loughran and placed a shot into the cage to give Lycoming a 2-1 lead. Catholic won a corner in the final minute of the game that was played in by
Tess Hake but the Cardinals failed to get a shot off and the Warriors closed out a 2-1 victory.
Reyes' goal in the first half was her second of the season, making her the first Catholic player to score multiple goals this season. She leads the team with six points on the year. Flynn recorded her career assist on the Reyes goal.
Bowman made four saves in total in the match and
Caroline Cristella added a defensive save for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals next game will be Wednesday, October 15 at 6 pm for a Landmark contest against Elizabethtown. The game is scheduled for 6 pm on Cardinal Stadium.
