WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Catholic women's soccer team hosted Wilkes on its Senior Day and came away with a 1-1 draw.
Prior to the matchup, Catholic honored all twelve seniors:
Isabel Doherty,
Abby McCall,
Faith Sawyer,
Peyton Coron,
Payton Hardy,
Emily Harkins,
Ava Gregorio,
Emily Longenderfer,
Sam Cesario,
Brienna Spano,
Teighan Boyle, and
Ava Rieger.
The Cardinals dominated the first half with 10 shots to the Colonels' zero; unfortunately none of them were able to find the back of the net. Senior Doherty led the team with 4 shots that half.
With the score still zero apiece, Catholic started the second half strong. Senior Cesario outpaced her defender and shot just out of reach of goalkeeper Delany Yaracs to put Catholic on the board in the 47th minute of the game. Cesario now has earned both an assist and a goal in just two games back from injury.
In the 71st minute, Wilkes found a way to even the score. Lauren Lefchak found her teammate Jaedyn Schouten open. Schouten poked the ball just out of Rieger's reach to give the Colonels their first goal.
Catholic continued to fight, getting 5 more shots off and earning 4 corners in the remaining minutes, but ultimately walked away from the match with a draw.
Hardy, Boyle, and Rieger were the only three Cardinals to play the full 90 minutes. Teammates Gregorio, Sawyer, and
Alex Berish followed close behind with 87, 85, and 81 minutes, respectively.
Up next, the Cardinals will travel to Elizabethtown, Pa. to take on Elizabethtown on Tuesday, October 14th at 7 p.m. in a Landmark Conference matchup.
