WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Despite trailing after the opening 20 minutes, Catholic (10-2, 5-0) fought off a pesky Lycoming (2-10, 1-4) squad to pick up a 65-61 road victory.
Brian Herbert scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, marking his first double-double of the season and the second of his career. The junior is up to a career-best 15.1 points per game through 12 contests this season.
The New Jersey native scored seven of the team's first 12 points as Catholic took a 12-6 lead in the first five minutes. However, Lycoming got hot from deep, making five threes in the first 11:15 to take a 23-19 lead. The Warriors led by as many as seven with 5:09 to play before a Herbert layup sparked an 8-0 Catholic spurt.
Sean Neylon nailed his lone triple of the game off a
CJ Ruoff feed to pull Catholic within two with 2:46 left in the half before
Matthew Gorman put the Cardinals back on top with a three of his own at the 2:10 mark. The Warriors hit two more threes, taking a five-point lead before Herbert made two free throws with 50 seconds left to pull the Cardinals within three at the half.
Trailing 42-40 with 14:53 to play in the contest,

Dan Buckley who connected from distance to put Catholic ahead by one. Buckley's triple kicked off a 9-0 run as the Cardinals built a 49-42 advantage as Gorman laid it in on the break.
Lycoming retook the lead with a 7-0 spurt as Hayden Pardo and Isaiah Valentine nailed a pair of threes before
Justin Green scored five straight to put the Cardinals ahead by four with 5:56 remaining. The three-ball continued to keep the Warriors in the contest, but a steal and finish from Green followed by another Green steal and a Neylon dunk pushed Catholic ahead 62-57 with 2:52 left. Buckley would nail his second triple to give Catholic its largest lead of the game at 65-57.
Lycoming outscored Catholic 4-0 over the final 2:20, but the Cardinals were able to hold on for a four-point road victory.
