Catholic Defeats Susquehanna for 13th Consecutive Time

WASHINGTON, D.C.
- Catholic (16-2, 9-2) outscored Susquehanna (10-8. 7-4) by 21 points in the second and third quarters en route to a 75-47 victory inside the DuFour Center on Wednesday night. The Cardinals have now won 13 straight against the River Hawks dating back to January, 2019.

According to D3 Data, Catholic entered the contest as the third-best third quarter team in the country, outscoring its opponents by 8.8 points per contest. The Cardinals lived up to that billing, beating the River Hawks by 11 in the period to extend a 12-point halftime lead into a 23-point edge entering the final period.

The Cardinal effort was well-rounded as five different players scored 10 or more points while seven players contributed at least five points. Carly Mulvaney and Alexa Kenah led the charge with 14 points each while combining for 14 rebounds and seven steals. Keegan Douglas and Amelia Kennedy scored 11 points while Anna Scoblick chipped in with 10. The trio combined for 12 of the team's 15 assists.

The first 10 minutes were extremely even with the largest lead of the period being four points as Catholic took it to the quarter break ahead 14-12 after a Kenah jumper with 1:27 left. The lead grew to nine at the 7:38 mark of the second quarter as Douglas knocked down a triple, followed by a pair of Mulvaney threes in the first 2:22 of the quarter. Catholic's lead grew to 10 at the 4:23 mark after a pair of Kennedy free throws before Douglas connected on her second triple of the quarter to make it a 30-17 game. The lead would extend to 16 with 1:46 on the clock, but Susquehanna trimmed it down to 11 with 31 seconds left before a Scoblick free throw sent the game to half with Catholic ahead 34-22.

It was all Catholic early in the third as an 8-0 run put the Cardinals ahead 44-24 with 5:48 left in the quarter. The lead swelled as high as 25 twice in the quarter, first on a Kerry Flaherty jumper with 45 seconds left and then on a Douglas layup with 17 seconds remaining.

Catholic outscored Susquehanna by five in the final quarter, making it so that they were the better side in each quarter of the game. The lead jumped to 30 points with 5:19 to play as Flaherty assisted Mulvaney after Kenah came away with a steal. It reached its apex with 1:38 remaining as Sofia Travieso canned a triple to extend Catholic's advantage to 75-43.
