BETHLEHEM, Pa. - For the 10th time this season, Catholic (17-2, 10-2) held its opponent to a field goal percentage lower than 30 percent as it earned a 68-39 road victory at Moravian (5-14, 3-9) on Saturday. The Greyhounds connected on just 13-of-49 shots (26.5 percent), including a first quarter where they made just one shot.
In that first quarter, Catholic raced out to a 21-0 lead before allowing a bucket for the first time with 58 seconds left.
Amelia Kennedy scored seven of her 12 points while
Anna Scoblick added five of her 10 in the first 10 minutes.
With 8:03 left in the first half,
Kerry Flaherty knocked down her second three of the half, putting the Cardinals ahead 26-5. A
Sam Blumenthal bucket with 3:59 remaining in the half opened up Catholic's largest lead of the first 20 minutes, 31-7, before Moravian scored the final seven points of the half to send it to the break with a score of 31-14.
Flaherty's third triple of the contest came with 8:37 on the third quarter clock as she put Catholic ahead 35-15. A two-point jumper from Flaherty just over four minutes later pushed the lead up to 25. The Greyhounds would trim the deficit to 17 before
Alexa Kenah scored with 22 seconds left in the quarter, sending the game to its final period with Catholic leading 47-28.
If there was any doubt left, it evaporated in the first 1:05 of the fourth quarter as Flaherty and
Keegan Douglas both nailed shots from deep, extending the lead back to 25 for
Matt Donohue's team. Flaherty's final three of the contest, her fifth, pushed the lead up to 27 with 5:55 left. Catholic's advantage reached as high as 32 before it closed out a 29-point road victory.
QUICK HITTERS
- Starting her fifth game of the season, Kennedy stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. The junior is shooting 50.4 percent from the field and leads the team with 40 steals.
- Flaherty's 17 points were one shy of her season-high as she made five threes in a game for the third time this season. Flaherty came into the contest with 99 career made threes and is up to 12th on the Catholic all-time list with 104 in just two seasons.
- As noted above, Catholic has held its opponent below 30 percent shooting 10 times this season and has its opponents shooting just 30.6 percent from the floor for the season.
