Hot Start Blasts Cardinals Past Colonels



WASHINGTON, D.C.
- Catholic (15-2, 8-2) opened the contest on a 28-2 run as it rushed past Wilkes (0-17, 0-10) for its 15th victory of the 2024-25 season. The Cardinals allowed less than 30 points for the first time since February of last season. 

14 different players scored for Catholic as they picked up a 75-28 victory over the Colonels. Anna Scoblick led the way with 16 points, six rebounds, and three assists in just 19 minutes of game action. No starter played more than 19 minutes for the Cardinals while eight different players played at least 10 minutes off the bench. 

Maggie Hughes scored seven points and pulled in four rebounds off the bench in 14 minutes of action while Lia Villa scored six points in 10 minutes of action. Olivia Boccella knocked down a three in her 10 minutes of game time for the Cardinals. 

Joining Scoblick in the starting lineup, Keegan Douglas scored nine points and added three rebounds while Kerry Flaherty hit two threes to add eight points of her own. Carly Mulvaney grabbed a game-high seven rebounds and added three assists and three steals. Flaherty is now just three threes shy of 100 makes for her Catholic career. Three more steals will get Mulvaney to 150 for her career. 

After a torrid start that saw Catholic take a 14-0 lead less than five minutes in as Douglas nailed a three, Catholic jumped out to a 33-point lead with just over five minutes to play in the first half as Mulvaney canned a triple. Matt Donohue's program took a 28-point lead into the locker room before a quick 7-0 spurt in the third quarter put his team up by 35. 

The lead swelled past 40 as Hughes scored with 1:50 left in the third period, getting up to 42 as the third quarter horn sounded. Catholic's largest lead of the contest was matched as Boccella hit a three to make it 72-28 with 2:33 to play before Molly McLaughlin and Anna Kreinbrook contributed to grow the lead to 47 at the conclusion of the contest. 

The Cardinals are 4-0 against Wilkes since the Colonels joined the conference before the 2023-24 season. Each Catholic win has come by at least 29 points. Catholic held the Colonels to 21.4 percent shooting in both contests this season. 

The Cardinals will remain at home on Wednesday as Susquehanna comes to the DuFour Center for a 6 p.m. tip.
