Two Freshman Score in Victory Over Moravian

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The freshman for Catholic field hockey thrived in this afternoon's Landmark Conference contest as the Cardinals took down Moravian, 2-0. Molly Romano and Oli Bond each had a goal to give Catholic its fourth win of the season.

Catholic dominated throughout the entire contest, keeping the ball on its offensive side of the field for the majority of the 60 minutes. They earned 15 penalty corners, nine off which came in the first half and got off 20 shots with 11 on target. The Catholic defense didn't see much action as Moravian logged just one penalty corner and only took six shots, four of which were easily saved by Ella Bowman.

Bond put the Cardinals ahead early with her third goal of the season 10 minutes into the first quarter. Lauren Keast was busy from the penalty spot as Catholic earned five penalty corners to open the contest before they converted on the sixth to go up by one. Mary Rojack recorded an assist on the play for her first point of the season.

Neither squad found the cage in the second quarter as the score remained 1-0 Cardinals after 30 minutes of action.

The Cardinals added another goal in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter when Romano sliced through the Greyhound defense for her first collegiate score. The freshman, who has only seen action in three contests this season, hustled to the ball after a Moravian defender mishandled it and fired a strong shot across the zone and into the left corner of the cage.

Moravian had a its best chance to cut the deficit with just over 12 minutes left when Samantha Culver grabbed a rebound off a saved shot and send the ball in for second time, but Emma Shallow got her stick on the ball to come up with a huge defensive save. With her fourth of the season, the senior has moved up to a tie for eighth on the NCAA DIII statistical leader board in defensive saves.

Catholic has never lost to Moravian in program history. The Cardinals are currently 19-0 against the Greyhounds dating back to the start of the Landmark Conference in 2007.

The Cardinals are back on the road for their next contest on Wednesday, October 2 when they take on Mary Washington at 7 p.m.
