SALISBURY, Md. - Jordan Edwards scored a 78th-minute goal to push Salisbury (3-1-5) past Catholic (4-3-1), 1-0 on Saturday.
Ava Rieger was stout in net, making seven saves. but the Cardinals couldn't sneak one past Salisbury's Riley Pinato. Pinato made three saves, stopping shots from
Sara Placide,
Teighan Boyle, and
Tessa Crossed.
Alex Berish and
Kaitlyn Houri played the full 90 minutes for the Cardinals while
Avery Bowman played 87 out of 90 minutes.
Salisbury pressured Catholic early, forcing Rieger to make three saves in the first 16 minutes of the contest. Rieger added a fourth first-half save in the 45th minute.
Crossed pressured Pinato for the first time in the 54th minute as the Sea Gull keeper made her first save. Less than two minutes later, Pinato stopped a Boyle free kick to make it a pair of saves. Her third and final save came in the 60th minute as Placide put one on target.
In the 78th minute, Kristen Ging found Jordan Edwards who beat Rieger for the lone goal of the contest.
Catholic opens up Landmark Conference play next Saturday at Moravian.
