Catholic Keeps Sheet Clean for Fourth Time in Five Games

WASHINGTON, D.C.
- Catholic (3-1-1) defeated Bridgewater 1-0 on Wednesday night, earning a fourth clean sheet in five games to start the season. AJ Hudock scored the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute to push Catholic to victory.

With just one shot on target in the first 72 minutes, Catholic finally broke through in the 73rd to come away victorious on Wednesday at Carlini Field. After a long Avery Bowman throw-in near the Bridgewater bench, Peyton Coron collected the ball in the middle of the box and left it back out top for Sara Placide. Placide's shot from 18 meters out was struck well, but goalie Sarah Kline met it. However, Kline couldn't corral the ball as it spilled over towards the left post where Hudock deposited it into the back of the net. Hudock came into the contest for the first time less than a minute before scoring the winner.

Bridgewater held the overall edge in shots in the contest 11-9, but Ava Rieger made three saves to collect her 16th career shutout. She was challenged on a header in the 20th minute for her lone save in the first 45 minutes. In the 52nd minute, she picked up a save as Bridgewater's top scoring threat Lyric Birkley put one on target. Rieger added her final save in the 69th minute off a shot from captain Skyler Daum.

For the Cardinal defense, the usual crew of Sam Cesario, Teighan Boyle, and Alex Berish played the full 90 minutes while Emily Harkins logged 73 minutes in the defensive midfield. Freshman Kaitlyn Houri made her first career start and played 69 minutes in the contest. Her fellow classmate Bowman played 65 minutes off the bench.

Hudock's goal gives Catholic three different goal scorers in 2024 and its the third goal of the seniors career in 31 games played. Rieger ties Tere Rossi with 16 career shutouts in just 33 career games.

The Cardinals four game home stand comes to an end as they make the short trip to Arlington, Va. to take on Marymount (Va.) on Monday afternoon.
