Hall of Fame Spotlight: Matt Taylor ('96)

| By:
WASHINGTON, D.C. - A standout running back in the 1990's, Matt Taylor ('96) will join the long list of Catholic football Hall of Famers.

A 1996 First Team All-American, Taylor left Catholic University with 16 school records. Taylor currently sits second in all-time in Catholic history with 3,802 rushing yards with 52 touchdowns. He became the first player in the history of the program to record multiple 1,000-yard rushing seasons, eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark in 1994 and 1996. His marks of 1,328 and 1,023 yards rank second and eighth in program history.

As far as single-season records go, Taylor remains the program record holder with 22 rushing touchdowns in a season. The 22 touchdowns are the second most total touchdowns scored by a player in a single-season as well. Taylor had 11 or more touchdowns in three seasons, including 15 in 1996. Taylor is one of two players in the programs history to score 15 or more rushing touchdowns twice in a season and one of three with 20 or more rushing touchdowns in a campaign alongside Andrew Notarfrancesco and Karl Kohl

A consistent force, Taylor logged 17 career 100-yard games, second-most in program history behind Notarfrancesco. His 233 rushing yards against Hampden-Sydney in 1996 remains in a tie for the most rushing yards in a single game at Catholic University.
