Senior Day Celebration! Cardinals Improve to 22-1 With Win Over Drew

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic women's basketball picked up a 68-39 win over Drew on Senior Day inside the DuFour Center on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals improved to 22-1 on the season and will enter the final week of the regular season in the driver's seat to earn the top seed in the Landmark Conference tournament for the first time since 2016-17.

Catholic built a 19-point halftime lead on the back of a 14-point effort in the first 20 minutes from Carly Mulvaney. Mulvaney knocked down two threes and shot six-of-nine from the floor in the first half while also grabbing four rebounds. She would finish the contest with a game-high 17 points and six rebounds.

Mulvaney knocked down the first shot of the game to put Catholic up 3-0 just 12 seconds in. The Cardinals would open the game on a 12-0 run, with Anna Scoblick and Keegan Douglas each contributing a bucket while Mulvaney scored eight early points. Mulvaney reached double figures just 4:32 into the contest, hitting a jump shot to make it 16-4 Cardinals. A Sarah White three made it 19-4. A Kaleigh Beirne layup gave Catholic its biggest lead of the quarter, 23-7, with 2:51 left on the clock.

Leading by nine entering the second quarter, Catholic used a quick 5-0 run to build the lead to 14. Alexa Kenah opened the quarter with a triple, followed by another Beirne layup. With 6:27 left in the half, Molly Aromando connected on a three to push the lead to 33-16. A 6-0 run over the final 2:55 sent Catholic to the locker room up 19.

Matt Donohue's program built the lead to 22 heading into quarter number four with a 10-3 run over the final 5:19 of the third. Beirne scored off a Tori Fernandez assist with 3:28 remaining to make it 49-31 before Fernandez drained a three to make it a 52-33 game with 2:20 remaining. Aromando hit her second three of the game with 45 ticks left on the third quarter clock to push the lead over 20 points.

The lead crept up to 26 as Douglas knocked down a corner three just over a minute into the fourth before Catholic closed out a 31-point victory. With 6:30 to play, senior Sienna DeGross recorded her first career points, scoring off a Douglas assist.

Each senior made contributions to the victory with Beirne continuing her breakout senior campaign with 11 points, four rebounds and three assists off the bench. Aromando added six points and four rebounds, DeGross finished with two points and a steal, and White scored three points, handed out three assists, grabbed four rebounds, and nabbed five steals in the winning effort.
